What is your definition of a "good worker" to all you managers out there. what makes a employee indispensable. An employee that you would hate to see go.

Someone that champions the company...meaning they take a pride in their employer and speaks highly of them to the public. Word of mouth is huge when it comes to anything (sales, recruitment) and who better to hear it from than employees?
Also, someone that is trainable. Sure you can find service tech's that already "know" what they are doing. But, it is hard to find service tech's that know how to do things the way you want them to as their employer. So it comes down to which ones are you able to convince that there really is a reason that they are asked to do things a certain way.
A good worker is also someone that establishes lines of communication and keeps them open...I know this goes both ways, however I see the break down most often with the techs. Our service guys are in very remote locations, it is important that if they have a problem with something or they don't like the way something is going that they call their manager. How can we ever fix anything if we dont' know its broken?

Yeah, someone that has a good pair of knee pads and isn't afraid to use them.

Old saying....If Its not broke, don't screw with It.
But most owners an mgr can't keep the fingers out of It, The most valuable tool a company has Is It employees, and It gets the lease attention.
