I heard last night at a Carrier class that Parker bought out Sporlan. Do you think that will change the quality of sporlan? I haven't used any parker valves exept for the Chatlift Type for the residential ADP coils and I have had to replace a few on warranty calls, but I have never had any problems with Sporlan. Am I concearned for no reason or ???

I have a theory on this. The engineers, in their infinite wisdom, make their money by making products cheaper to manufacture. In doing this, they are geting to the point that they have taken every possible nickel they can out of expansion valves and other components that they are basicly junk. You can only take so much out of a product before it turns into CRAP. Parker is not so bad, but Danfoss has taken their last penny out of their valves. The day when you could just throw a system together and it will work is over, man. You better have all of your installation practices honed in or pay the consiquences, because there is no fudge factor left. The engineers ate the fudge. Thanks for letting me vent.

Please, please, please I wish every Parker valve that has a Sporlan replacement be melted down to make manhole covers.
But that's just me.

I think the Sporlan product line as we know it is fairly safe.
What worries me however, is that nightmare I had recently in which Andy Schoen was taking lessons to speak Chinese.

It seems that Sporlans copper coating on their sweat connections has gotten pretty thin. No matter how hard I try or how cold I make my torch, I seem to burn into the steel. Never had this problem before.I'm done using their sweat products.

I believe the only copper plated steel fittings we make anymore are with the See-All moisture liquid indicators. And we make these same See-Alls with copper fittings available thru our authorized wholesalers.
We switched to copper fittings on our Catch-All line years ago.

I think that Sporlan WILL inevitably change. How many times have you heard of a large company buying a small company and NOT putting their fingers into it at least a little bit? What really determines the future of Sporlan if you ask me is what will the direction of Parker Flow controls place on the Parker line and the Sporlan line. No way that they will keep the Parker valves compete with the Sporlan line. Something has to give. Time will ultimately tell.
Now the buy out of Alco by Emerson is a one way trip to the world of Danfoss valves. The quality was crap BEFORE the transaction, Alco is one boardroom meeting away from selling in Home Depot.

We are in an all mighty dollar world. In that world what used to be good was redifined. And now mediocrity is deemed as good. Where it will go next.

The big fish eating the little guy is not necessary a bad thing, Emerson for example bought Copeland, browning, Alco etc and they are investing heavily to make those companies more profitable and improve products quality, of course there will be some cost cuttings here and there, the ride on the gravy train will stop and a few others wont be on board with the changes but in the long run its all good and we’ll all see plenty of it for the years to come.
