I was offered a unin job,
the only hitch is
that their insurance does not take affect for 6 months
My present insurance from work
will only be good for 30 days once I leave this job
Does anyone know of any family affordable plans I can buy for 5 months
Thank You

Which union? Does your current employer need to give you a COBRA plan? I thought you were already in Local 9.

Just an idea, but could you ask the new place if they'd let you enroll in their insurance, but you pay? Might be a bit too expensive, but it's worth asking.

They refuse to let me pay into their plan.
They say it is a union issue
Is the cobra family plan expensive.
Thank You

With cobra it will be he same insurance you have now you will just pay your former employer whatever it cost them. You can do this for 18 months, they have to offer it by law. This is probably the cheapest way to go because your former employer is probably getting a group rate.

It all depends on how you left and how they want to charge you. When I left one company for one of their competitors lets just say unhappy was an understatement and when it came time for COBRA it was around 15 k for the 18 months. They are allowed to add in "handling and administrative" fees and also do not have to allow you to pay monthly, they wanted a lump sum. Another law for the working man that has no teeth. It can be a bad catch 22 especially if you or your family has a pre existing condition, a gap in coverage will allow insurance to deny or refuse coverage. Try and talk to your new employer and if they want you bad enough they should bend some on this.

I thought you would purchase cobra outside.
I was wondering if there is a basic Cobra plan
The one thousand dollar a month price tag is a little
high for five months
Johnson , my new employer says it is a union issue
If they do it for me they have to do it for everyone
I hope the company is good

I was in the same situation as you are in when I joined the union. Try Golden Rule insurance company. They offer short term insurance plans. What you are looking for is something to protect you until union ins kicks in.You can get a plan with 1000 dollar deductible and 80% after that to a certain amount.Works out so if you have catastrophic claim you are basically out like 2k up to a million dollars or something. My wife and kids were in a wreck and we have filed on it while everything goes thru attorneys and they have paid a ton of money. Can probably get 6 mos plan for around $1000.If you can swing it pay entire amount up front to get a decent discount on the premium.
Also make sure you get it for a length that will definetly cover you until the othere starts as it can be a hassle to get it renewed. But overall a good value and solution to what you are needing.
