I am considering a truck charge for my service call outs. Would be nice to get feel for the average rate. Any suggestions? Does anyone have any rules of thumb? ...like a percentage of the labour rate? or just a flat rate. Kinda lost in this area...
Any help or insight is appreciated.

Dirtyjay...we charge a truck charge of $35.00 for every service call. This covers fuel and expendables like rags and wire nuts. This is in addition to our normal hourly rate.

$59 gets me to the customers front door, hourly rate starts when they open it. $59 + 1 hour minimum charge in most cases.
I just add a Misc charge to every invoice.

$100 truck charge. Mind you we're industrial boilers. That includes the trucks fuel, ins, maintenance and guaranteed 2 hour response time. We also have an analysis charge of $100. This is the use of our analyzers for every call. Plus two hour minimum charge out.
For some reason we don't get many residential calls....:D
...or restaurants for that matter...:D :D :D
