Have the INET 2000 Software

Phone line is connected and working
Hit> software restore and see all dial/link/host sites with their phone numbers

When I hit > connect I get only the TEST option that I use for

direct serial connection

Unable to get any option to dial a phone number

Edit> Host Computer shows no Phone Number Option

Telephone Icon button is grayed out

Can Direct connect to 78060 controller O.K.

Thank you very much

On your remote PC / laptop do you have an I/NET Configuration Profile for the site you are trying to dial? If so is it set up for integrated dial?

If it is configured for a direct connect I/NET will not allow you to add a phone number under Host > Computer > Phone Numbers. The active profile must be configured as a dial up for you to be able to add/delete/modify site phone numbers.

TP is right. You need to configure that site for dial up and then make the dial up profile active before it will dial. Your current active profile is your direct connect settings.

If I understand you correctly -you did dial into the system site. I.e you heard the modem dialed and connected to the site (long beep sound).

If correct - then you may have not enter the host password. I.e before you choose to dial into the site you must enter the password, then choose to dial into the site, then connect again into the controller (it will then ask you to enter the controller password). Depend on the level of this sencond password, you can do a lot or not.

You may want to follow these steps (if you are configured for dial up and phone work properly):

Double click on the INET2000 icon
click on SYSTEM, then choose LOG OFF
click on SYSTEM, then choose LOG ON
you are prompt to enter HOST PASSWORD -- enter DACS as default password
click on CONNECT, then go on

like I said the site password is set as level -- the highest level allows you to do everything. good luck on the second password

Just Opinion,

No offense but maybe you should read the post again slowly. You do not understand him correctly.

He cannot locate the correct number for the remote site. So the modem on the other end has not picked due to the fact that it was never dialed. The modem on his PC / laptop is working, but he cannot dial the site in question because I/NET does not have that phone number stored yet.

You are correct about his password level. He should be sure he has access to all features. It sounds like his remote numbers are not setup or the active profile is for a direct connect.

If I understand

I am using the wrong password

I am not at administrator level,

so even if I can see all the site names and their phone numbers

because I am not logged on as an administrator

I have no means of dialing any of the phone numbers that are on my laptop

However I am able to add and save new dial/host/ link entries

I will try the new password

Thank you

Can you get into the INET Configuration Profiles? If you can modify the job name you are trying to connect to and make the Link Type an Integrated Dial. Then say Ok and make it active and choose close. You now should be able to dial the site if you have it set up in Inet. Open Inet normally choose Edit, Host Computer, Phone Number settings and enter in the phone number with the index number.

I/O Server
configuration profile window
there are varoius entries under EACH FIELD

system address hardware address Name and Dial = Y

Does any of this have to match the sites I am trying to dial into

Do I have to visit each site to configure this ?

Thank You

Do you know what type of communications you are using?

TAC I/NET (I/NET Max, I/NET 2000, or I/NET Seven) have several different remote communications methods. Auto Dial Auto Answer (ADAA), Integrated Dial (the most common we use), or Integrated NPR (dial up for Netplus Routers).

When you use Integrated Dial, once it connects to the remote site you should have a window that says "Dial Complete"

Without knowing what setup you have it is hard to pinpoint exactly what your problem is. Some of the most common ones I see are;

The wrong baud rate. I/NET Integrated Dial is typically at 9600, older sites may be 4800 or have a Hayes modem. Newer sites use a USR V92 56k external modem. They must have the correct strings. You cannot install out of the box. Assuming you checked the baud rate in the I/O Configuration Profile, right click My Computer > Properties > Hardware > Device Manager > Modems and check the baud rate of the modem you are dialing with to be sure it matches the baud rate in I/NET.

As far as the the I/O Profile. There is a System and Hardware address, they should match the Link (s) addess (s) of the remote site you are dialing. Could be 0 & 0, all depends who set it up and how many Links the remote site has.

If it is Integrated NPR Dial the baud rate is typically 19,200

If is a site that was I/NET 2000 and you upgraded to I/NET Seven the modem strings changed. You can set the strings using ProComm Plus or Hyper Terminal.

Also do you know if you are setup with Asynchronous or Synchronous communications. There are different software bin files loaded into each controller. The most typical I see is Async.

Also the remote modem needs the dip switches configured correctly. Typically I do that when I set the strings.

One last thing, do you know if you are dialing into a modem connected to a primary controller (7716, 7718, 7728, 7756, 7790) thru the RS-232 com port, or is the modem connected to a 7801, 7804, 7806 Tap? Could be a Tap powered off, cable not plugged in etc.. You probably need to verify all the basic stuff first.

If you need more info I have some TAC documentation on how to configure the modems.

The Inet Configuration server has "Dial up "Active

Hit Connect and their are no more entries

I enter a phone number and I am able to dial

I hit Edit> Host computer > network configuration and get

The Link summary window there are multiple entries

I highlite the first link #11 >penetrate site summary pops up

I can see mulitple sites
Highlite a site >penetrate

type: 7806 dial Lan Name: My site Downloadable: Y

In configuration profile

I choose Dial Up > Modify
Link Type: Integrated Dial
Port or Device : My computers Modem

When I choose A site and click Penetrate

It says it is dialing Link Number 11 and then I get

"No Lines available"

I can dial manually but not automatically

When you dial manually does it connect to the site? or does it just dial it.

Yes I enter the number and it dials and connects

This problem now has occurred on more than one laptop

Rather than reinvent the wheel

I have the names and numbers in one window

Is there a way I can copy/paste them into the Directory that

pops up when I hit Connect

It appeaqrs to work that way, it just involves

typing in over 89 entries on

everyones computer

This Inet works for a while and then it does not
Thank You

I've got some csi controls and i was wondering if any of you guys could give me an idea how much a dealer would get for them,
1- main controller#70000a,1- controller with keypad interface#7728-c,
1-netplus router Thanks.

Depends how bad they need them. I NEVER buy used controllers. The only exceptions I would ever make is if I needed hardware for demo/training kits or for loaners that we keep for service contracts which are all used anyway and only in a building temporarily until the damaged controller is repaired..

We never resell used hardware to customers due to warranty issues. There is a market for obsolete and legacy gear. Those model numbers are older. If you have no need for them now or in the future and want to make some money on them rather than disposing of them, you may want to put them on eBay, or try to sell to a building owner/manager who would be more interested in the controllers for a good price and less worried about any warranty.

Also if you find anyone that is interested the EPROMS are backwards compatible with the TAC I/NET system. If they are running new software they can upgrade the chips for a minimal amount.

I was able to download a utility from Lime wire

We copied and pasted most of the numbers

It saved us alot of time

Thanks for the offer of used controllers, but hopefully as this Inet breaks down they are replacing them with Johnson or Carrier systems

Thank You
