I have a 3 ton heat pump that constantly freezes up, the mechanic says that the reason is because its to big, my house is 2250 sq feet, any opinions?

Dude, get a service technician STAT.
This is a sign that the defrost controls aren't working properly.
I have a house that's about that size with a 3 tom Rheem, and it did the same thing. Bad defrost board in that case. Yours is something in the defrost controls.
But get a tech to fix it!

Hmmm. I'd say it's not defrosting. I think it needs a repair.

3 Ton for 2250 sq. ft. seems about right to me. I would have to say that you have a bad defrost thermostat, or board, or rev. valve. It really shouldn't matter what size it is to be freezing up. If anything it would freeze up less when in heat mode since it would not run as long. Now if he were talking about cooling mode then he would be making sense.

Funny, seems a little undersized to me. Aside from that, you need a tech to look at that.

Maybe it depends where you live in the U.S. to determine size???

Regardless of if it's sized right, which it probably isn't(heatpumps have lower capacities usually in heat), it's not defrosting properly, and needs service. Could be a minor adjustment.

Put it on Emergency heat and call some help before her heart (compressor) stops! This one needs the HVAC EMS.
