Pretty new to this Lon stuff but am I reading the Rover information correctly. It states that I can connect to and configure other Lon compliant devices. If this is correct I should be able to connect the comm5 to an Invensys I/A micronet vav and read the information and make changes to the setpoints. Is this correct?

Sort of. I dont believe that you can configure any other manufacturers controllers with Rover other than Trane's. You can however use the comm 5 hardware to connect to any Lon network and by using a LNS network management software such as LonMaker (Echelon) LonWatcher (Distech) or Network Integrator (Circon) and applying the free plug-ins supplied by Invensys on the LonMark website, you can connect to the Lon I/A controllers and configure them.

If it is possible to use other vendors plug-ins with Rover I would love to hear about it myself.
You can however use any of these software packages to configure Trane comm 5 controllers.

This is the basis of my question, page 2. I am open to all suggestions for being able to look at the setpoints and settings on these controllers.

I'll be looking foward to the replies fron the Trane guys because I did not think this was possible.

Here is another link that spells it out pretty clearly on page 3.

EIA/CEA-860 compliance
This tool complies with the EIA/CEA-860 software standard and the LonTalk® network protocol. This means that operators can view and configure controllers with compliant software, whether they are manufactured by Trane or another company. The EIA/CEA-860 standard was adopted by the Electronic Industries Alliance and the Consumer Electronics Association to promote systems integration among manufacturers using LonTalk® network technology.

You are correct. It can. Others must make plug-ins for their controller adhering the the 860 standard. Just like making one for LNS plug-in.

Just to clarify kwillmech, you can not use LNS plug-ins with Rover? Is there any vendor that you know of that provides plug-ins that are 860 compliant?

Mtnwrench,
I don't know the first part of your question but if your microzone's have a frontend controller on them DO NOT use active modethis will erase all bindings in the system.

I assume this is a Long job if so see if you can get a copy of their software probably make it a little easier. Hopefully the bldg. owner has a copy of it.

Controldude, yep, Long job, owners really dont want them back on the property. No front-end installed and no software. Pretty sure they wont give us a copy of it either. Just need to look at a few vav's that are not working properly. As they die, I will replace them with Trane. Gonna give this a try in the morning. Thanks.

Try this go to echelon web site and download a copy of lonmaker software it has a 30 day limit i think but you can upload the controller file in lonmaker to work with it.
hope this helps

Mtnwrench,

Rover in Active Mode will perform network management and may reformat all the DSN for your network. This will destroy bindings. You are correct. This is why there are three times to answer "are you sure" when you go to active mode. If you destroy bindings it is your fault.

No word yet on future of Trane and LNS plug-ins. As of now, no.

Is there any vendor that you know of that provides plug-ins that are 860 compliant?
Honestly I haven't looked.

Did a quick search and this is interesting to read page 38.

I don't think you will see any LNS plugins from Trane.
They have their "open" plugins that other than the remote possibility of Siemens are the only ones going that route.

Hmmmm.

where at on the echelon site can I download the trial lonmaker?

dapper

I dont think that you can download a trial version. A few years ago you could request a trial CD. You may have to contact Echelon to get a 30 day trial if they still make them available.

Where on the Lonmark site can I download device plu-in's?

mtnwrench, LonMark changed the website yesterday. I cannot find the plug-ins either. They have been talking about changing the website for months now. It seems that they rushed out the new site for AHR. There are obviously things that are missing. Maybe the plug-in download page will no longer be posted.

My apologies to LonMark. I finally found the plug-in directory. The TAC / Invensys stuff is here.
Only the xif file is available here. You will have ot go to TAC for the plug-in.

kwill, can you make that readme file available. I have heard that there are changes comming for Trane Plug-ins. Would like to see what the current status is.
After a closer reading of your post I see that is the change I have been waiting for. Is that a public document yet?

I'm pretty sure that he had to sign a non-disclosure agreement to view the document himself. Unless he wrote it of course.:D

Hmmm. Times are changing. I just may have some LNS plugins now from them.

I'll have to look into this now that they suddenly appeared. (thanks by the way)
