Hello everyone there im new here.

I have a question to all HVAC Managers in Residential or Commerical/Industrial industry.

Who would you hire? A person with no G3 or G2 licence but that had a lot of experience or a G2 with very little experience?

Thanks

I would hire the guy with the better attitude, with very few exceptions.

do you need the licence to work in your area, if so then hire for the licence and train the person. if you do not need it then who is a better fit for what would help the company out the most. if you need an experienced tech then hire one, and be willing to pay for the experience. if you are looking for a helper then hire a good additude, and the rest will take care of itself.

Yes you do need a licence to work, your G3 Gas fitter licence gets you entry into the trade, to do furnace cleanings etc. Then you should progress to get your G2 licence.

I am not looking to hire someone, I am looking to be hired by someone and am hoping some heating service managers can give some advice.

well what license do you currently have? to get a job in Ontario what you have to do is pick up the phone and call..very simple, I know a couple of guys who got their G3 sent out a couple of resumes and didnt get a job and now they are taking courses for a totally different career/job. When I started I just kept on calling and searching and it didnt take long to get a job. If you want to be in this field you will be with a little persistance.

Take the guy with experience

I had no ticket for years in the old days, lots of experience then moved to Alberta applied for their version of the G2 ended up writing the exam for their G1 and passed.

I moved back to Ontario, just had to pay money to get the G2, wrote and passed the G1 exam in Ontario, about a year before they combined it with propane.

Left Canada over 8 years ago, seems like G3 is a fairly recent thing.
