I am having a new propane gas furnace (Amana AMH95) installed tomorrow.
Need some advice on the filters....

My current furnace has the standard 1" filter. I've been using the 3M filters and change them regularly (every 3 months).
But I've just learned they have pleated filters that are 4" or 5" thick. They apparently are only changed every 6 months or so.

So, with my new furnace, should I have the current ductwork changed so that I can use a 4" or 5" pleated filter?
What is the general consensus: are the larger 4"-5" filters better than the the standard 1"? Why or why not?

Finally what are the best filter brands, in either the 1" or 4"-5"?

Thanks for the help.

yes , go with a 4 or 5" pleated filter, after testing the static and making any modifications needed.

3M 1" pleated "load up"(get plugged ) very fast,often need changing in two weeks,the 5" pleated won't do that.

Brand?Buy a merv 12 or better ,rated pleated filter.

If you want an even better filter for IAQ,look at the Carrier Infinity Filter,or other top of the line filters,do some research.

One contractor recommended the Air Bear Supreme Filter. Are they any good?

According to the specs, the MERV rating is only 8.

Will that suffice?

The wet coil during cooling is around a merv 5 or 6 ,so merv 8 is the minimum that I'd go with.Be sure the static is tested.

Note: Many here will disagree.
