I'm stumped! As I mentioned in a previous post, I have been unable to connect to my iLON web pages in my home system.

Accessing the iLON from either of 2 PCs with Internet Explorer will get me to the logon screen then the 'index' page where the system hangs and eventually a pop-up box 'xml parser error'. Connecting with LonMaker and opening the iLON plug-in takes about 10 minutes but the data will eventually load.

One machine has IE6, the other IE7. One has MSXML Parser6, the other has MSXML Parser4. The only thing common between the 2 machines is McAfee anti-virus.

Today I took the laptop to the basement and tried a console session but found nothing unusual. I direct connected with a Cat5 cable and was able to load all web pages. Also went to my network router and removed the cable and connected to the laptop. Still all was good. The laptop has IE6 and an older version of McAfee.

Obviously the problem is not with the iLON but with my computers, or could it be with my network? This is a recent problem. It has been fine for 18 months. Could it be McAfee? It is a recent upgrade. I could not find any settings that might be a problem. Could it be the MSXML Parsers?

I am open to any and all suggestions.
Thanx

I had similiar issues at home with my McAfee subscription. It had expired & I had not gotten around to renewing it. I had all different kinds of problems, until I removed it...I am behind a hard-wired firewall along with XP pro firewall and some other protection, so I am not really too concerned about virus'...Now all is back to normal, minus McAfee!

Unfortunately I did renew with a new anti-virus package. It has been a real piece of sh*t but I can usually work around the problems. I will delete it and let you know how it goes.
From what I hear of other people having similar problems, McAfee might be a shareware company in a year or two. I will never buy another one of their products. If I was an employee there I would start looking for a new line of work.

Well..... that was the problem. I just deleted McAfee and called up the iLON. BLAM... it was there in seconds.
What a P.O.S. that software is. I have been fighting with it ever since I installed it.
It was an expensive lesson to learn, but one that I will never make again. They couldn't give me software after this.

Symantec isn't any better. Actually, I'm a little more surprised McAfee gave you trouble. You could look into what exceptions you could enter for the ilon's.

However, I'm not overly fond of either of those anti-virus packages. From what I hear M-soft is looking to do it on their own in the future.

......and some of those free and shareware anti-virus programs are pretty good. Maybe try out anti-vir.

Try AVG anti virus, I use it on all my machines with out any problems. There is a free version for home use, but its hidden away. I will post a link later.

Grisoft AVG is simply the best, in my book atleast.
You can get the free version at free.grisoft.com

McAfee and Norton are hogs IMHO.

I have to agree with you guys. Yesterday I downloaded AVG to both machines and everything is working fine. My machines even run a little quicker now, especially internet access.
