Been here for 6 year Carnak. Seen a lot worse stuff in the GD area than here.

You yourself if I am not mistaken was banned under another user name. So should you be telling us what's in store here ?

It's not a secret the world is unsettled and it is going to show up here. If it wasn't here it would be in the GD area and other parts of the Forum. That is why Don in his wisdom created this section.

In the past, one of the Mods openly express his contempt for the ARP. Really bad move considering no Mod individually is bigger than this forum and the fact it was written as if he was god almighty speaking himself.

We are all guilty in one way or another of contributing to the water being muddy, we are all human and feel like when we are threatened we should match it with equal venom which can be a mistake. And you know something, the Mods are human also. This stuff was allowed to go on for some time and some Mods openly expressed their desires not to come here and that set up the Dodge City mentality ;)

The only thing I found objectionable were the racist comments.
At the same time the site admin had a pretty good idea what they were getting into when they started a forum labeled :
"America, Religion, Politics
For discussions about government, religion, politics, terrorists, philosophy and other explosive topics."
To me that means there may be topics that members may have a strong point of view on and express themselves to the best or worst of their abilities. ;)
Perhaps a line should be added to the description: "ENTER AT YOUR OWN RISK. You may something that is objectionable."
Closing down ARP is certainly a option. At least with ARP you have a forum where "explosive topics" can be discussed, ranted and raved about, and even misrepresented. If ARP were to close the only thing that would happen is some of these topics will migrate to the other forums.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I can't recall any racist comments. We sure have some "politically incorrect" posts and threads such as the one on AA. But I didn't know we had to be politically correct on this form. If that’s the case the dems will automatically win by default because all their positions are the politically correct ones as defined by the leftist press.
People's tempers flare up (including mine but I resolve not to let that happen any more) and words will be exchanged which shouldn't be but that we just all have to watch that. I guess you guys are right about the advertisers liking a calm sea to advertise in. Let’s hope we don’t get it in the neck.

I know of one thread that went a bit overboard using avatars to bait someone. Any discussion of race is likely to get heated but we have to be carefull to keep the discussions to the topics at hand and not let the personal attacks go overboard. If ARP can't be left alone, rather than go away, I'd rather see it go to a membership forum like the pro forums where part of signing up for it means allowance for what happens here. Under those conditions, you know what you are getting into and have fair warning. If you can't take it, then leave but no complaining allowed if you are offended.

Many of the topics here would likely come up in other forums so at least here, they are somewhat contained. Just look at the threads that get moved here for proof of that.

Glenn, I don't remember the exact remarks but I think they were uncalled for, on both sides of the argument. It seems it was finally stymied without a major confrontation.

But I agree, if we have to be PC, this place is nothing but a run-o'-the-mill site...and those are a dime a dozen.

It's PC remarks that bring up issues that really should be discussed. Too many non-"A" types who don't like confrontation and that can lead to ALL rights being lost.

James, yes I was banned because I would not keep quiet about stuff that was always swept under the rug. You would have been as "green as grass here" and I doubt you ever even read a single post I wrote back then or would not have realized I was banned by Don unless I told you in the first place. So, as Archie would say, "Stifle". Since then I have never had 'time outs' like a little kid unlike some others.

I could care less if they kept ARP or not. I would not miss it, if they banned religion and political stuff in the forum period.

But the handwriting on the wall is the ads are going to get more and more mainstream, and advertisers are into the "PC" stuff. You guys will make it easy for them to justify ARP getting deleted.

With the bickering, it makes work for the unpaid mods, but the order to clean up or get closed down is not coming from them. It comes from the guys who are selling the ads.

Hey, it's the Internet. It is Dodge City.

If a advertiser doesn't know that, their dumber than anyone on the Internet. Have a little compassion for us that have to have a Motorola cell phone jump out at us and look at those two ugly guys at the top of the page.

This site has ALWAYS been moderated (censored) and it likely always will be and it is needed.

The problem with moderation is that it is IMPOSSIBLE to be "fair" about it since everyone is an emotional critter and moderation is 100% about how it is gonna make some "feel" it can not possibly be perfect. Since it is not possible for a mod to completly keep thier own emotions and thoughts out of it, they are open to making mistakes. There also is always the case where you have a bad mod on a power trip and that has happened before as well.

IMHO arp was a brainstorm of sorts to have a space within the site the mod did not have to worry about, sort of a rubber room for bloggers in hopes that it would not spill into the rest of the site, disrupting the actual purpose of the original idea, an hvac/r site.

This site is nothing more than interactive TV! If you look at the main page as a TV guide of sorts, it is not hard to determine that the forums can almost be drawn to what is on TV.

HVAC Comforttech = specialty advertisement and announcement channel for a large group.
Convention = Info channel
Pro business= General information channel similar to business nightly
Pro technical= Discovery network
Pro training= PBS
Pro tools= Bob Villa
General discussion= NBC/CBS/FOX network tv, sitcoms, news, dramas, and other topical info
Residential= DIY network
Commercial= Sort of a NOVA/History channel mix
Refer= Myth busters/ scifi at times

The list goes on and on. The point is what is ARP. That is not hard, it is the Jerry Springer show, the worst show ever on tv, but still not canceled. There are more than one who never post or discuss anywhere else on the site. It is one of the busiest sections of the site and while the owners may take action, they will not do so without SERIOUS consideration to the monies it generates. It is a numbers game, like all forms of advertising. If they are paid upon "impressions" as many sites are, it becomes a bit more complicated. Looking at the edited/moderated numbers:

194,693
153,362
124,184
63,566 arp is the fourth largest channel, not bad ratings, might be a little different if you had the info on what has disappeared too.

It represents 9% of the total site postings, it averages better than 1000% views to post ratio which means there are one hell of a lot of advertisement impressions generated by that forum and it may well generate a LARGE portion of the income to the site.

Just like with TV, even a ratings generator can come under fire, just like married with children did when the lady in MI started writing to the advertisers on FOX. Just as with TV there is no easy answer, you simply can't please everyone. Perhaps if it is possible, making it a 18 yr old plus member only forum is a solution, perhaps not, but one thing will always remain the same, no matter how hard you try you will NEVER get everyone to act like a grown up.

It has to be a mods nightmare and near impossible to be fair as in ARP it is like a fart in an elevator, the SOB that started the stink got off and left everyone else to suffer!

You make some good points, rich. The personal views of a mod can influence decisions. That's why we usually discuss ARP issues among all the mods before making a decision. Just yesterday, the team reversed a decision of a moderator.

We want to be fair to all members. Being fair to all members means we have to have be mindful of comments that can be construed as hateful towards others. Perhaps, Site Admin shouldn't have used the PC phrase. Regardless, there's no reason that discussion can't occur in this forum without the derogative comments towards others.

I think one of the 'tricks' about this forum is for newbies to do similiar to what I did. I was here for some time before I jumped into arp. Even then, I read first, posted later. A slower entry into arp makes for a more prepared person. I knew what may happen and who it would likely come from before I ever made a post here. Even then, I've been challenged but never personally attacked here. I haven't started a personal attack and so far nobody has started in on me. I tried to grow a thick skin just in case though, after all, this is the ARP forum. While it may not always;) happen, it is possible to have heated discussions without getting personal and I would hope that those type of discussions will continue.

I think so. Let’s say the difference is that to keep from being publicly incorrect is that you shouldn’t post shall we say; sexually explicit pictures, slanderous untrue articles about a person’s race, background, faith (exception of course for the Muslins since we all know about that “religion of Peace”), etc: But politics is free reign, including hot issues like AA providing we keep the discussion on a high plane and don’t insult someone’s background, race, culture, etc., the war, taxes, US citizenship, political parties, communists, immigration and so on. This is what I take publicly incorrect would mean. Of course it goes without saying we keep it on a reasonably high plane don’t start “losing it” and go nuke on each other also. I hope I got it right.

I know. I'm going to miss being called an Idiot and a moron daily. I'm already feeling like I'm not loved anymore. My whole world has crashed down around me. Such grief should not have to be endured by one person.

Hey Sarcasm is ok I can call you an idiot and a commie but not a S** O* A **** or to go **** yourself. As long as it is done with humor.

There has never been anyone on the site with a better one-line insult than James with bootie running a solid second.
There has never been anyone on the site willing to write more novellas on a subject than greer (I purposely misspell his name out of respect :D )
There has never been any loonier responses given than the ones we get from Rob10 and Acmanko.
There has never been a better example of person's who don't understand their own posts than ace and tin, God bless them :D
There has never been a better model for the atheist mantras than braces.
There has never been anyone more polite, even when trying to insult, than MrBillpro.
Daytona gets my vote for personality I most admire here.

ARP is one of the best forms of entertainment that we have.

God (Zeus for geer) bless all you guys.

Gosh, should we put a little rainbow flag next to the arp section? or would that be too politically correct?;)

This stuff was allowed to go on for some time and some Mods openly expressed their desires not to come here and that set up the Dodge City mentality ;) You and I bash each other quite a bit here  :p , I still consider you a close friend. This post of yours post exemplefies my thoughts exactly. With new owners this site has become "All about Money"!!

Hell!! I couldn't even use a Southern flag as my avatar because it was not "Politically Correct".

God Bless you brother and that is exactly the kind of person I want to be, I am just the kind of person that is just doing his time on earth waiting to go to Heaven is my personal belief but I also respect others beliefs. I just like to have fun, laugh and cut up and I don't take life to serious it's to short. I don't want to get under someone skin and I know when to bail out from any thread. I Love humor it's my life and I try my best to be a friend to everyone and even if my enemy was drowning I would jump in after him, no I am not perfect just a man trying to have a good time during this life and live in peace, and if I rub off on others a little well it just makes my life more meaningful.:D
