I was called for the jury duty. Some of the participants I have met, served twice in the past.
What is wrong with the system where in a city of 1.5 million , someone has to serve twice?
Are there any statisticians here to have an answer? I know that to qualify for the jury duty, one has to have a clean criminal record and been a citizen .Oops! I think I've answered my own question. :(

Its not really up to you but to the lawers, they look for admiral traits, and quickly write you off if you do not fit their demographics. But it is interesting

I know exactly what you mean. It is interesting how prosecutor and defense attorney go back and fore to pick the right jurors. I've learned something myself in the process.

Was your decision made beyond a reasonable doubt? How long was a jury deliberation?
Did you lose a lot of time serving? How much do they pay a day for a jury duty in your neck of the woods? I've got a check for $9.00 for one day. I will be payed at work for this day but what if I was self employed? I think I'd be pretty pis*ed off. :D

I know what you mean. Some jurors believed that O.J. Simpson was not guilty because of his celebrity status. :o

But............I went twice, last was 2 years ago, very interesting but I was a "one and done" juror.
Crimminal division.
It was weird watching the defendents being questioned.
They would look out on the jury pool and they had to be thinking, there are the people who will determine my fate.

The whole jury duty thing p*sses me off. If they want you to serve that bad, than they should be required to pay you whaever wage you earn at your current job for every day you are on jury duty.

I got like $12, they had a fund set up for those that only were there one day, ya could donate it to the abused womens shelter.
Everyone who served did that I think.............yeah me too.:D

If I could, I would make only the welfare recipients serve a jury duty.
They don't have anything else to do anyway and this way they would earn
few bucks minus check cashing fees.
This way tax paying citizens could go to work to make money to pay
into the welfare fund.

Deliberation took 3 hours. 1st degree premeditated homicide. 2 homos met at a hotel room for a night of sickness. The big homo stangled and crushed the throat of the little homo. After the little homo was dead, the big homo beat the little homos butt with a coat hanger over a hundred times.
The crime scene photos were sickening.
The big homo did not testify or say one word through out the trial. When we came back into the courtroom after deliberating, he had a smerk on his face like this was all a big joke.
Then our appointee read the verdict and his expression changed. Thats the end of him.
Apparently this guy was in the army and was dishonorably discharged. We were not allowed access to that info though.
It lasted about 5 days and the pay sucked. It was fun and interesting though.

I served not too long ago. Spent a week in the basement of the courthouse, No significant jury pay (2.50 a day or something like that), never got put on a case. Spent all week reading a book and trying not to loose my mind in boredom.

The only reason it works is that hard working citizens give up a days pay. That makes the person on trial wonder what, if he knows he did it, kind of sentence he will get, giving him the opportunity to plead guilty and accept a sentence of his own,i.e. what the DA offers.

I was on jury duty for 6 weeks last spring, I had to call every weekend to hear if there was a trial. I didn't have one trial in that whole time........:D

I have been called twice in the last year, I think the pay in Ct is $50 a day. I am self employed, had to write two letters telling them I cannot serve. At the time I had an apprentice and my wife on the payroll. I told them by my serving I am removing the food from 3 mouths not counting my two kids. The second time there was no getting off. But I wasn't called and my service is fullfilled for a year I think. How much you want to bet my name comes up again. I can spot a guilty man a mile away.

As a part time cop, I'm on a do-not-call list somewhere for jury duty. Def lawyers don't like us anyway cause we've dealt with so many hairballs they figure we'll hammer their clients.
I was in court yesterday on a reckless boating case - cigarette-type boat spun out at high speed ejecting all onboard. After I pulled everyone out of the water I charged the operator with reckless op based on a number of nitwit decisions he'd made as skipper. It was a long morning sparring with his lawyer but the charge stuck.
As a college student in the mid 80s I served on a jury and scored a good summer job from another juror.
By all means go - you'll meet interesting people and learn stuff you hadn't thought of before, most likely.

I was picked for jury duty once in my life so far. Turns out they wanted me to stay for deliberations so I did until I heard the name of the defendant, the guy was someone I knew, I couldn't believe it.
I gracefully got my ass outta there.

In Oklahoma if you blow off jury duty a bench warrant is issued for your arrest:(

Recieved notice last year. Since I still work for the Sheriff's Office, I wrote on the form that I'd be happy to serve; let's get the guilty party before the jury and sentence him/her now. I took it to the courthouse and never was called.
The avaeage age in this county is deceased so they can find retirees that have nothing but time to do these juries.
