I am a second year HVAC&R student with an interest in Building Automation and Direct Digital Controls. I have 9 years of work experience with computer networking and decided two years ago to make a career change.

I am in the process of reading Honeywell's Engineering Manual of Automatic Controls and looking at the eLearning sims on the Echelon website. I would like to create a home lab with some inexpensive controls and apps in order to work through and learn the LonWorks concepts.

Can someone make some suggestions or possibly a different approach to getting some hands-on time with LonWorks and DDC?

See if you can get a student copy of Lonmaker from Echelon. If you can't do that I'd get something like Newron systems LNS tool because it's cheaper.

Also check Engenuity for some devices or ask around for some of us that will give some up to you.

Thank you for your suggestions. I will research this further.
