Carrier with blown blower motor. Replacement estimate for variable speed motor = high. Overall unit around 10 yrs of good service. Any advice on maybe using non-variable speed motor? Is the price of replacing due to CARRIER techniques and settings or what?

ECM motors are expensive no doubt about it.

I would replace the motor.

What caused it to fail?

if rest of furnace is in good shape i would fix it. try changing to multi speed motor you have just put all liability on whoever does it, cause its no longer how it left the factory.

Replace furnace if you intend to stay in the house. If your convinced the motor is bad

Have no idea why stopped working. Came home no air blowing on cool-fan-nothing. Air coming out of top of outside unit was cool. Repair guys said blower motor and gave estimates on replacing motor or new unit. I did call GE about that motor and was told that CARRIER was my only option on that motor. Special for CARRIER - they have their own programming or settings or whatever. OKAY!!!! Onward and upward!!! Give me some info on seer. What is low end and best at present time? If need to replace whole unit why start at bottom? Good attitude or good for ac contractor??? Just trying to make a good decision once I have all my options. Thanks for any and all info.
