sometime within the next 10 days, everyone should exercise EVERY circuit breaker 2-3 times --
do it early in the morning, so if one fails, you have time to get it replaced.
circuit breakers have mechanical linkage which can corrode & not then be able to interrupt a fault.

I had a customer who had a motor catch on fire in a mobile home. 2 yr old Coleman with plastic doors that melted. I sent an electrician over after it was repaired and he said the breaker was not even functioning..
My 1st resolution , check MY breakers. Good idea cem-bsee.;)

I have a Sylvania panel, I think I'll wait until I am ready to replace the panel before I "exercise" any of the breakers, lol.

Well, mine all work and I identified all but 2. Why is it most electricians do not mark the breakers? Least thats how it is around here.
Come on Mark, don't be scared. That panel may go out tonight anyway.LOL:D

Marking breakers takes all the fun out of it. I wired my house when it was built and carefully numbered every breaker and kept a log of what circuit each number fed. Recently, I installed a generator and had to move some circuits over into another panel and I couldn't find my log book anywhere. Oh well, I have added so much and changed so much in the last 20 years that it might not have done anygood anyway. We just did it the old fashioned way....turned everything "on" in the house and turned each breaker off one at a time to see what went "off".

And while you're at it, change the battery in those smoke detectors.....

Well I did it tonight after reading this, not sure why. Pissed the wife off, she was in the shower. We gatta reset some clocks. One 20 amp would not, will not reset. Goes to a dedicated unused outlet in the garage. Thanks Man! I'll TS it in the morning.

Halloween is a better indicator of when to change batteries in CO & smoke detector units = just before the main heating season ---
though those in the tundra area might use Labor Day --
Halloween also ties in with Fire Prevention month.= Oct.
