York types,
Is the equalizing solenoid used on these machines (ie R22 and 134 units) like their low pressure conterparts?
Are you guys changing oil on annuals routinely like with the low pressure machines? Thanks.

I take it your speaking about the gearcase vent line soleniod.

on a high pressure chiller there is no reason to change the oil every year. think about it. you are not bringing air or moisture when you have a leak so your oil is fine. just take a oil sample and go from there. as for the soleniod think about why it is used on the low pressure chillers? does this apply to high pressure also?
if you had a idle chiller with a sump full of oil/refrigerant if you lower the pressure fast enough wont you foam the oil? why would they even install the solenoid in the first place if it wasn't needed

York does use Vent line solenoids to keep the sump vented the key is to have the sump at the lowest pressure possible, this is why the the sump is vented right at the eye of the Impeller behind the vanes.Hope this helps The oil change will be dictated by analyses which should be done annualy York says every 5 yrs on HI pressure, annually on low pressure.
