My new Trane installed XR402's installation manual must have been written by the Chinese. My system was supposed to bring on the gas furnace when the outside temp went to 35deg, and revert back to heat pump use when the temp. rose to 44deg outside.

I now get only gas heat and the thermostat LCD is reading the following:

'Auto' setting highlited but the 'heat' readout on the thermostat is flashing along with the 'service' readout which is also flashing. The heat pump will not come on to heat the house even though the temp. outside is 54deg.

What could possibly be the problem. The installer took home the installation instructions with him to study and will consult his boss tomorrow on the problem.

One other thing that annoys me is that there is nothing in the manuals with a telephone number for Trane.....Very interesting. I even had a tele number for my 'Goodman' furnace that I could call and talk to someone.

This is not exactly a cheap system and I bought the 10 year parts & labor and don't want to be calling these guys every month.

The manuals need a whole lot of work. Anybody have any clue as to what is going on with this Trane XR 13 dual-fuel system??

Regards,
jack

You have a problem with the Heat Pump it revedrted back to gas furnace to keep you with heat. Let the installers figure it out. They have a tech support number they can call, it is not for home owners though.

That looks like a really easy problem to solve.

Looking at the troubleshooting chart, it specificly lists the error you are getting, the cause and the solution.

It seems your installers may have missed this note on page 3 of the instructions.

The jumper is a loop of wire sticking up off the circuit board on the thermostat, it MUST be cut for your dual fuel system to work correctly.

If your installer took your only copy of the instructions for the thermostat, you can download them off my site if you want an electronic copy.
