I working on a york ycr chiller with two screw compressors.
model#ycrso120sc46yaafb miilenium
My lead compressor intermintantly trips on high current. Its tripped 4 times with running time rangeing from 10 to 12 seconds, amps are 120 to 150 fla. the safety cut out is after 7 seconds if it is higher than 115 fla it will shut down. It can run for a week or so with no problems. I haven't been able to notice it happen. The motor monitor is set up right, voltage is good(the other compressor is off same feed). I'm thinking there may be a contactor or micro switch problem when it changes from star to delta on startup? or maybe the monitor/sensors. No signs of electrical problems or connections.

I would like to add the slide valve displayed fully unloaded 0 upon start

In reguards to the Icey ladders question about the motor current tripping, I had the same issue driving me nuts with several YCAS compressors too, What ended up happening was the sensor attached to motor windings was out of spec .So I had a resistor installed to correct the difference in values. I've had Not 1more of this type of trip in 6 months

Give it a thought

your describing my exact scenerio did you have a compressor change out on this as well ?

check for rusty thermistor leads or if it is a recently replaced compressor there should be a notice sent with it about the thermistor design change. It tells you how to hook up the resistor to the thermistors and the value of it

I have a York YCWS chiller with two compressors. I've had problems with the compressors tripping breakers or overloads on start-up. The problem was that the comps. do not unload no matter what the controller tells them to do. The step controller would say the position was 0, but the comps. were stuck in the fully load position. When the comps. would start, they would try and start fully loaded. There's an add on kit that York puts out to correct this problem, and they will nail you on the price.

whats the model number on the compressors themselves. does it start with XHS or DXS. if it is XHS the lide valve may be stuck. you can fix that by pulling off the front cover, taking out the 1/2 pipe plug putting in a 1/2 pipe yank out the valve clean up the bore clean up the valve or put in new one. If it is a DXS I bet the unloader spring is broken. you could try to replace it yourself but you could send it in for repair and they will do all new bearing lip seals and other goodies provided the block is still good. XHS are built new only I think, they are a bear to TD 50 ton press and a number 12 rosebud

We do have the same problem with DXS45 Compressor.
What is the add on kit to correct this problem?
