yeah it was me thinking about myself. Doing some roofing today, about a 5/12 pitch metal roof, taped some sticky fabric to my jeans, started sliding off(only 10 ft drop), and thought more about saving my hammerdrill/driver than anything else. I didn't drop off, or the drill either, but makes you think when you get to the ground. Tie it off, or let it go Stupid!!!!..... oh well, I made it. food for thought.

Slipping on a 5/12? Are you pulling 2 G's or what? That's >20 degrees.

On a Satellite TV install on a roof, I started to slowly slide. I had time to ponder while I was sliding, so I layed down. Increased my friction losses and promptly stopped sliding.

At least you didn't end up as these two...

"Two North Texas families are at the bedside of loved ones who may never walk again after accidents hanging Christmas lights.

Both Jacob Rodriguez, 50, and Michael Rodriguez, 19 – no relation – were sent to Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth after accidents while decorating their houses. Harris Dr. David Smith said that type of accident is one of the leading causes of injury in the country."

Result of roof or ladder falls.

To quote Hill Street Blues, "Be careful out there!"

I probably shouldn't tell you guys this, but..

I was up on the roof of my big garage a month or so ago cleaning up branches & blowing out the gutters. My leafblower is a crappy electric one from a garage sale..

So, I'm in a hurry, probably hung over, whatever.. I didn't tie off the ladder. Everything was going great 'til I got down to the far end and yanked on the extension cord.

I heard the ladder slide across the gutter, and I saw it disappearing, but there wasn't anything I could do about it.

I'm too old to jump off, my wife is in the house vacuuming or something with the music blaring, and I don't really want to holler at the neighbors to come rescue me.

Luckily, I was able to use the extension cord as a lasso and pull the ladder back up. Nobody ever knew about it.
