propane--Carrier 58mxa-040 intermittent no fire--may be ok for days and then lock up--can watch the ignitor come on and monitor 24vac to gas valve for about 5 seconds--if it fires it does so just as the ignitor is going out-like no gas present when valve first turned on-getting cold out now-20-30. About 6 years old--has done this on and off for a few years--also have cleaned the flame sensor--if flame ignites--all is ok --suspect propane pressue--what should the pressure be just before the gas valve? I have an older carrier furnace on same line and it never has a problem??? I saw a post from last year with almost the same symptoms!!--IDEAS> Thanks Bob

Call for service.

In addition to checking for proper gas pressure in and out of the gas valve, the technician should verify the integrity and alignment of the ignitor and burner box gaskets.

A properly trained service tech (especially one that receives Carrier service bulletins) should be able to resolve this issue.

Thanks for the reply--I checked the pressure and have about 10.5 in coming into and out of the gas valve--some corrosion on the burners and my local carrier tech suggested replacing the 2 burners--so will try that tonight--everything else seems to check ok--just a tempermental furnace ignitiion system

Final note: put in 2 new burners and the furnace works great-ignites every time. Appears the light corrosion in the original burners was enough to disrupt the smooth flow of propane and delay or impare the quick firing of the burner start up sequence
