Can some confirm that the Trane XL19i heat pump, when in heat mode, will always have the its fan running on high speed ? That is what the Trane technician told me. When in cooling, the fan works in two speeds, along with the two compressors
Thanks

well it claims to have 3-stage heating.

see:

Maybe he didn't want to change the thermostat or indoor AHU

can't confirm that it always will, but it should be......if it is not,you have a problem.....if memory serves me,the t-stat must recieve a call on the fan terminal to kick the blower up to second stage/higher speed.....if this is not happening and you are sure the second stage compressor is in operation.......call a qualified service tech,.....good luck!!!!!

This is exactly what is happening. Do you know why does the blower works in two speeds for cooling but only on high speed for heating ? it is certainly noisier

I believe the OP is talking about the outdoor fan, not indoors. I do not know the answer but running on high all the time in heating makes sense, trying to get every lick of heat it can. Mark, do you know?

Yes, I am referring to the blower on the outside unit

The outdoor fan on XL19i heat pumps runs at high speed for both stages in the heating mode. It does that to maximize 1st stage heating capacity.

Check my understanding mark:

So in the heating mode during the 1st stage, the fan pulls available heat to the evaporator(outdoor coil during heating), and the 2nd or 3rd stage is left to the auxillary.

Since the outdoor fan stops during the defrost cycle(at this time a heat pump goes into the cooling mode and stops the outdoor fan), is this the only time the outdoor fan will stop during the heating cycle of a heat pump?

Thanks.

2nd stage is the bigger compressor, 3rd stage is the aux heat.

You are correct in that the only time the fan stops during a call for heat is when the unit is in defrost.
