Hi:

I'm doing some basic research for a Central Air unit I will have installed in the Spring. The HVAC installer who installed my gas furnace last week did mention that when installing central air, he would have to figure out how to drain the condensate since I don't have a floor drain nor a sink in the basement. However, I do have a sump pump which drains water from around the foundation during rain and snow melting. Can the condensate be drained by the sump pump? Many potential problems with central air are caused by difficulties with the condensate: fungus, mold, slime, rust, freezing.

Thanks

In my area draining anything from the furnace or a/c is considered a code violation, so check w/ your inspector about that. the only thing that is logical is have a condensate pump and run the lines to a laundry tub or sink.

drain to sump pump or condensate pump to outdoors, both legal in my area. some towns will not allow discharge into sewer system at all.
