Our furnace, in keeping with it's usual pattern, has again failed during a holiday week. It is an 18 yr old Lennox. I have 2 bids for a Carrier 58MVB120. One contractor will use the Honeywell 8000 thermostat and the other says only the Infinity will do. He also said using any other thermostat controller would void the carrier warranty.
I have read positives on both and wonder if I should just go with the infinity all the way.
I haven't had heat since last Thursday and would like to decide and get this over with.
This forum has been very enlightening, thank you to all who take the time to educate us.

The Infinity is the best choice to get the most out of the furnace.
It will not void the warranty if you use the Honeywell 8000. The furnace is set up to use both types of stat. You don't get all the features with the 8000 with that furnace.

Is that contractor for real?
Why would anyone consider installing anything other than the Infinity Control for their Infinity furnace??? It's made specifically and only for Carrier Infinity furnaces. It communicates with the furnace in a way no other thermostat can.
The Infinity is a control. All others are just thermostats.
I know what I would choose (and did).

The Infinity control is very well engineered --
IMO you get more features & benefits from the Honeywell 9000 IAQ where 1 control w/ no buttons operates your HVAC, humidification, dehumidification (stand alone or integrated), fresh air ventilation to ASHREA specs, slam dunk vacation mode package, fully programmable or non programmable, lock out w/ overrides, field adjustable displays etc..... and all from a 3 wire.

Put in the Infinity and see the difference for yourself.

Or, put the 9000 IAQ in and see the difference for yourself.
I've installed both -
