I would like to know pro's and con's regarding subject makes. ONe contractor is looking to put in a 69000 btu 95% Goodman the other a 75000 btu 90+% rheem. Which would be a better furnace

There are multiple selections of furnaces for each company. Rheem has a 95% furnace also and they also have a Modulating furnace. Goodman is related to Amana and they have an extensive line but no Mod.
As you are getting ready to hear from other posters; installation is as (if not more) imortant as the product. Search for product descriptions from the Manu. web sites. I know Rheems from a recent post.

Everyone has their own opinions on brands. You'll hear plenty especially when Goodman is mentioned. Many hate it, some like it, especially when Goodman's name is on their paycheck :D

htrguy is right, installation is more important than the brand. Both will do just fine if put in right.

What if the installation is equal?

Who are these contractors that only offer one solution????

Installation equal? Flip a coin!

I know what I would want. I know what Robo will push when he finds this thread :D

Seems typical around here that dealers we run into quote only one brand. Customers do like it that we quote 2 or even 3.

Even if it's the same brand, at least quote a base model, a good middle system and a premium system. Explain the differences and let the customer choose.

Once again, the entire system installation will matter much more than the branding. Example: You can buy the best (most expensive) brand, but forget to install the return duct correctly. This setup with the best brand will turn into a disaster, due to a very loud system, which should be very quite according to the manufacture.

You also have to remember to compare apples to apples and price when you are comparing products across brands. Every brand has a variety of equipment for different situations and different wallets.

Now, there are sorten features that only sorten brands offer. For example: Infinity and Trane zoning systems do not require a by pass duct system for zoning solutions. It is a nice feature for those brands.

The bottom line is this. There are multiple parameters mostly acting together that will dictate the "goodness" of the system when put together.

The advice: strive to produce every part of the system to perfection. At the end, the overall product will be better. No shortcuts.

RHEEM!! RHEEM!!! Everybody knows what I think about that other brand. But it really does depend on the installer. Look for other brands also if you can. Get which one you think is best for your budget and home.

I'm not sure you would want to bet on what you think I'd want baldone. I've always made it a point that I am partial to a particular furnace, even if it is not as efficient and basically a mutant of the industry :D
