I need some advice on a good residential unit and since I am no longer in the industry I am forced to buy from these online dealers that have a limited variety of systems. I used to work in the refer field sometimes dabbling in higherend custom built cascade systems. I never did any residential work and have no clue about who uses good parts and which res systems are reliable. I have my epa universal and would love to add central air ( its about time! ).

The website im looking at for a gas furnace/ac combo is smartway.com The specific brands I am looking at are

COMFORTCARE 2.5 ton, 13 SEER, 75,000 BTU 80% AFUE

GOODMAN 2.5 ton, 14 SEER, 70,000 BTU 80% AFUE

GOODMAN 2.5 ton, 13 SEER, 69,000 BTU 93% AFUE

PAYNE 2.5 ton, 13 SEER, 45,000 BTU 80% AFUE

YORK 2.5 ton, 14 SEER, 80,000 BTU 80% AFUE

no model #'s though... GRRR
Im leaning a little more towards the goodman 93% AFUE. Never heard of the comfortcare, are they any good? I'd go for the YORK but cash is tight, isn't it always? I've seen alot of jokes about the goodmans on the forums, are they really that bad? I dont want to be changing out ignitors every 2 winters and compressors every summer!

FYI the install is going into my 1500 sq ft 90yr old house with insualtion. Im replacing a 30+ yr old Thatcher which is the size of a geo metro.

I've worked in the industry for 2 yrs as an apprentice under some very good techs, sure miss those guys. ( aka parts runner, coffee pickerupper, scape goat lol ) Still have all my old tools, turbo torch, guages, pump, etc, even a jug of R-12 and 22. I left the field since I'm a sissy when it comes to ladders and hights. Im working for chrysler now, still hands on, just no more roofs, eeeek!

Considering I used to work for some serious outfits, and was in an apprenticeship program I know what it takes to make a good install........ Definately going to dot my I's and cross my T's. Heck I'll even post pics when I'm done to show mee hackwork ;)

For not much more you can get the 95% model of Goodman and take $150 off of your tax return.
