I have a ten month old 13 seer hvac system with puron technology and all new ductwork. About four months ago I noticed an antifreeze like odor near the return. Now there is a heavy almost putrid odor coming through all of the vents. It is worse in the airconditioning mode. Does anyone have any idea what is causing this. Unit has been inspect twice by installer, can't find anything. Carrier, 38YXA, 5 ton.

flex duct under the home?

maybe a raccoon decided to make a home in there.

then died.

If the installer can't diagnose the problem, I say that stinks.

I have been looking into the 'dirty socks syndrome'. Does anyone have definitive answers to cause and/or remedy?

The only permanent fix I have found is a coated coil. For Trane equipment I can get them from Trane, I don't know if Carrier has such a thing though.
For brands other than Trane we order a brand new coil and send it off to Technicoat.

check to see if they drained your condensate into the sewer line on the roof.
