Hi everyone, this is going tobe my first time buying a heating system. I have no clue on this kind of stuff so here goes. I have a had a few estimates so far but I am not sure which system to pick. The first estimate recommends getting a trane TUD080R9V3k, which is a variable speed heating system. This hvac guy insists on using this one. Now the second estimate wants to install the single blower TUD080936, he insists that the variable one is not needed. I dont know myself, how do I choose? Also the forst guy wants to install a whole new outside a/c compressor and new inside coil, the second guy says to leave the old compressor and old coil. My A/c works fine but it is 20 years old, should I be change it like the first guy says?

I am sorry for the long post, but I dont know waht to do and my current system is not working and it is getting cold here(boston Ma.).

Any suggestions?

Thank You

Sounds like the first mechanical contractor is looking out for your comfort and long term interests.

So do you think It would be worth it for me to install the 2 stage XV80? I could tell the second installer I want that one vs the single stage.

Thanks

How much money do you have? Reason I ask is if this replacement is going to hurt a lot, then your options are less. If you can finance or afford it, replace the A/C now rather than next year and be done with it. Go high end for best comfort. Go cheap if wallet is thin.

Money is not a issue, I can afford it. But it just seems a huge difference in price.

Thanks

Mechman96,
I do not know where you live, in Kansas city the utility companies have heatpump rebates and special rates for heat pump customers for 9 months a year, basically 50% off your elec bill all winter. I usually like to sell an 80% efficient basic furnace with a high efficient 14-16 seer heatpump/air conditioner.Since the customer would only use the gas furnace when it is under 32 degrees outside. There might be TRANE rebates on variable speed stuff right now check with your local TRANE wholesaler. A new ECM or control for your variable speed motor my cost is a few hundred dollars, make sure you get a good parts and labor warranty. good luck

Go with the first guy.. he's looking after you in the long run. It's cheaper to do it all at once, than little here and there.. That way the duct for the A/C coil matches the new furnace.

You will be very glad you got the VS two stage system, well worth the extra cash, and COMFORT! Make sure you do get a two stage t-stat.

As Super said, get the 10 years parts and labor warranity, it's nice to have a peace of mind for the next 10 years if something did go wrong.

I am glad I got the VS cuz the house is much more comfortable, and it's quiet when it runs on 1st stage most of the time.

I also suspect the 2nd guy is one who spends his day getting the "low price" customers. He probably will not be around long anyway.

Well I got a third and final estimate. I am going with my 3rd estimate. He came out and inspected the whole house and gave me a quote(which was much better than the first 2) on a trane variable furnace with a 2 stage thermostat, which is what I wanted. Also a trane clean affects system , and a new coil for my a/c. And last he is going to replace the outside a/c unit with a trane 14 seer and all new lines. He also mentioned there are rebates that I was not told about from the other 2 estimates. So do you guys think this sounds like a good system. Here are the models I am getting:

Furnace:TUD080R9V3K
Coil:RXC03153HPC
A/C unit:4TTX4030
Filter: Trane Clean air
Thermostat:602 2 stage

Thanks everone
