While looking to purchase a new furnace (getting a Rheem Classic 90 2 stage), I am trying to figure out the best air cleaner to go with it. I have a 2000 sq foot home with a full basement 1/2 finished. My wife has some allergies but nothing major (nasal congestion). I also have a medium sized dog that sheds a little.

Currently we don't have an air cleaner and use the cheap pleated furnace filters. I have been told not to use the high end 3M furnace filters because of the stress it puts on the furnace motor.

I have been looking at the Aprilaire 2400, Aprilaire 5000 and an Electornic air cleaner with a hepafilter. We have never had an air filter in our house so don't know which to choose.

I apprecaite any advice you can give me.

Thank you,
Wingmann

go to the "indoor air quality" section for more info than you will want.
