Is it possible to wire a inline duct booster fan to a Variable Speed Air Handler attached to a 5 ton Heat Pump? I have one room (16'X16') that is quite distance from the VSM Air Handler and does not achieve adequate air flow. I would appreciate electrical wiring information of inline duct fan to VSM Air Handler if it is possible to do so.

to the ecm, no. you should have your contractor install this. at east have them take a look. you may not need a fan

I am looking for confirmation that it is feasable to wire up a duct fan to a Variable Speed Air Handler. Are duct fans compatible with a VSM

sorry, ecm is variable speed. you cant hook the two together. ok, you can if you want to fry the duct fan like some chicken legs and possibly damage your varible speed motor and control board. thats probably about 2 g's to fix!!!

They tend not to do much good. Can get expensive to have installed only to find little to no improvement. Just advice from experience!

I agree, I`ve found them to be a waste of time/$$

As an alternative to a inline duct booster, there are duct boosters available that set on top over the register of poor performing ducts that plug into the closest electrical wall plug. This will alleviate worring about wiring etc. I used one im my kitchen for a few years. It helped a little bit, but are noisey, and I don't use it anymore since I got a VS air handler.

While you can't connect it directly to the ecm most furnaces/ahus have accessory taps that can be used to control a boost fan, but as already stated they aren't of much use.

I have to disagree, I have had a few situations that they worked real well. It all depends on the application and you can use them with a variable speed air handler.

Just contact a reputable contractor....... he can look at your application and let you know the best way to go and if the boost fans will do you any good.

Just so you know , my application was I could mount them a long way away from the furnace in a location where I had easy access for servicing or repair. Piping was not sized right to begin with but it worked great.

Its just not a DIY job.
