Does anyone one have an oil chart for split systems that tells how much additional oil is needed?
The compressor sometimes doesn't contain enough oil for the run of pipe on a new installation. There must be a chart that can tell me how much to add.

i have never seen one,and have always did a follow-up on new split start-up,had split scroll...hellical split air cooled never noticed major oil loss.when starting up and charging always check and re-check it even a 5 story riser up to a spilt York semi-hermetics chillers with basement oil seperaters on the discharge risers...just to WET the syatem on the cycle maybe pint or two tops.if the compressor is shipped short the sightglass would be my concern to keep it at 1/2 to 3/4 up.

I checked my hvac bible "Trane Refrigeration Manual", It states "A general rule is to add 1 additional pint of oil is required for each 10 lbs of refrigerant charged into the system." This is my guess, maybe somebody can elaborate from here. If you know how much extra piping you installing you could calculate the additional refrigerant in system and use the above mentioned formula. Well it sounds logical to me.
