LonMaker - value based on network topology

As I have some network communication problems in LON bus I read once more LonMaker help and find in many places sentence: "which calculates an appropriate value based on network topology".
Did anyone know how LonMaker get knowledge about LON bus actually wired? Or sentence means that LonMaker uses some standard values based on channel and transceiver type?
