Sometimes I cleverly title my threads with a play on words. This one I just wanted to title America is a shiathole. But that would be over the top.
I'm pissed off from 3 stories that were on the news tonight.

The first was about the shooting in WI. The ahole walked through a restraining order and shot up a salon killing 3 people.
The ahole was court ordered to turn in his guns, which he didn't. The police said that even though he didn't turn his guns they couldn't do anything about it cause it was a civil matter.
Now I realize he could have just gone and bought more guns, but he was threatening his ex. No charges for threatening.

Second a Lebonon couple that kidnapped a little girl is was charged with kidnapping. Well actually only one is. The driver/husband got a suspended sentence after pleading guilty to child endangerment. He is now on probation. Probation!! For kidnapping!!

Lastly a man is in Federal prison for threatening his SIL over the internet. His wife is missing and he us a suspect. But Federal prison for making a threat online.

Now what is wrong with this country that kidnappers get off, police don't or can't treat crimes as crimes and making a threat via Google gets you a federal sentence.

Yeah I know what you're going to say.
if the guy that is in federal prison wasn't put away his SIL maybe dead. True. But why is it one threat means more to the authorities than another.

That guy in WI should have been locked up for psych evaluation.

And the couple in Lebanon, mo. should both be serving time for kidnapping.

I've known for sometime that our local Govt cannot prevent crimes. And they cannot protect us either.
If they could we wouldn't have crime or need for prisons. The police rarely prevent a crime. They only respond to crimes.
This is why it bugs me when there is a high profile story of a murder, or kidnapping or god forbid a child molestation, the one thing you will hear is we need more laws. That somehow more laws will prevent this tragedy from happening again. BULLSHEET.
There are already laws on the books that deal with murder, kidnappings, child molesters. The problem is getting the police and prosecutors and judges to do their EFing job!
But even then there will still be crime. And it's only going to get worse.
