Carrier never put out a 123 machine. Once the govn't forced the industry to phase out R-11, Carrier began work on medium pressure chillers 22 & 134a. XL, XRT, EX, etc. Contact your local Carrier office for info.

Its not a big deal really.
True, Carrier does not support it but they do sell the stuff you need to do it with.
You have to re-dip the motor & most likely will have to do somthing to make the impeller a little more aggressive.
Why do you want to convert?
There will be plenty of R-11 to last the life of that machine.
Also you want to do eddycurrent testing to make the proper risk assesment as to wether the machine is worth it.
If you have to re-tube that needs to be considered.
You can also make gains if you re-tube with enhanced tubes.
Again, weigh the cost.
You may want to consider a control panel upgrade as well.
Does it have a high efficency condensing purge?
If you do all of your homework & decide the machine is worth the investment the conversion can be done.
My e-mail is in my profile, contact me for more specific info on what needs to be done & the right people to get all of the stuff you need.

They came to one of our CG meetings. Its possible until you see the pricing. Unless the chiller is located where it is impossible to move, it would be cheaper to put in a new chiller. JMHO

I might know where there's an ESP II panel, though...

Yes, stick with the R11. Tighten the machine up, install a rupture gaurd, a high efficiency purge and be done with it.

I agree completely with what you guys are saying.
You have to weigh the cost difference & look at the obstacles sorrounding the job.
I'm not really sure what the guy is after or looking to do, he said he wanted to see on that was converted, why I don't know.
One of my customers has three 1200 ton machines located on the 36th floor of the building with the cooling towers sitting on the roof right above them.
They hold R11, an RMS was added back when.
These machines are early 70s vintage, I think they still have alot of life left, but when the time comes to replace em I not sure how thats going to happen.
If the shells survive I'm sure we can re-tube & do some kind of compressor kit along with control panels.
But it will be interesting to say the least.
