Local 638 in N.Y. Benefits ,health plan?

I am interviewing with an H.V.A.C. company that is Local 638 In New York.
Do they have an annuity plan ?
What kind of benefits ,vaction package do they offer?
Is there a contact person .
I know thy are an large an well established union.

if your hired on the Metal Trades side(HVAC)they(new company)have 3 months to get you into the union and get you going in the classes if your not walking in as a journeymen.if they have a 401K plan in the new company that is rare with the city companies...check it out http://www.steamfitters.com/index.html right now the B guys get $2.50 for every working hour into our pension totals $530.00 per month

the health insurance is very good !!!! "DON'T" even consider working for a "NON-UNION" company. You will have a much better standard of living working for a commercial "UNION-COMPANY" I got Hired by a 638 company in 1985 . they put me in 638 2 months later. Dude my pension contribution statements speak volumes.

I do not want to start a thirty page argument, but for me, working in the NorthEast,
I would never consider a non union job.
Except if the pay was above $179,000

In the NorthEast region any halfway decent H.V.A.C. company is union. And most contractors for that matter.

Even members of management and a few owners were once union members.
In our bussiness you do not have to find a union company to be lazy.
The companies I worked for had very competative union members.
We work very hard because we want the rewards and
there are many members out there who will take our jobs in a second.
Union means to me.an employer agrees to pay you a certain wage and benefits on Monday,they cannot
just get up and change their mind on Friday
638 sounds like a very good union
How are the vacation days.

Your better off going with 638 in the nyc and surrounding area. I was there for 14 years, never had an issue then I moved down to fl, saw what was down here with these ice cube makers...wasn't impressed (even with the locals sayng they were living good) I decided to go back to the union...hence Im living good. 638 is good, unless you want to work for the hack comps in ny that won't pay you want you need.....same as florida.

dental $2000 per family member per year Met Life

Blue Cross Blue Sheild excellent $5 co pay and $35 emergency room

Eyglass plan sucks, only $100 per year per family member,used to be better.

Pension plan one of the best, no anuity though for service tec's. Vested 5 years (used to be 10 years)

Prescription plan excellent $5 or $7 per perscription

2 weeks vac and 5 sick after per year, 11 paid holidays
3 weeks vac after 5 years with same company

free evening classes for techs
