Is there an alternative for the Johnson control sensor? They have gone up in price and the facility where I just started working at has dozens of shorted/open sensors (10yrs on line). Can you put in a 10,000 ohm resistor in its place? Thanks and appreciate any input.

Most jci is 1000 ohm check aci or bapi
hope this helps
Kele has them as well. Which JCI part # are you looking at? The TE-6311M-2 should be had for less than $15.

Probably is 1000 ohm. That p/n sounds right. The JCI is over 40.00. Has anyone heard of Mmac controls?

Mamacs are good. I believe they make sensors that are branded for many companies.

Anyone have the linearization table for the JCI 1k?

From what I remember Johnson has several options in HVAC Pro for sensors. You can select Resistive Nickel, Platinum, or Silicon. You can also select voltage (0 - 10 VDC) or current (4 to 20 mA). Other selectable sensors are the Honeywell C7170A, York 2.2K NTC and York 10K NTC. Note: Make sure to change the jumper settings on the controllers too!

I have a couple of problems with Mamac.
One problem is their QA program. It used to be that if a sensor was returned as defective, it was tracked back to the person who assembled it and that person lost their job (I believe they had one strike, then you were out).
I'm not sure if that practice is on-going, but once I found out about it I never shipped another Mamac sensor back and chose not to to business with a company that treated it's folks like that. Failure rate was never a problem, but it existed.
2nd problem is that the majority of their production capability goes to OEM's (Honeywell for ex.). This means that you (the end customer) will always play second fiddle. Though they do a good job of balancing that.
I also have a big problem with the way that Mamac's ownership takes it upon himself to gain information about company's or people that don't play his game and then flings that information around. Often times there's no good reason for this other than to demonstrate the power of knowledge. I can't condone that sort of behaviour either - and so I won't buy from Mamac.
I choose to support BAPI whenever possible. That place epitomizes good business practices and they earn their place in my partners book. Their product is good and constantly improving and there's nothing they won't do to assure their customer (me) is happy. They truly earn my business.

I was never inspired to dig into the inner workings of the company. I've had times when sensors where 'unavailable' from OEMs and I had good luck getting replacements from Mamac.
I agree that their business practices sound a little harsh. I suppose if you were to dig deep enough you might find similar types of things going on in other companies as well.
You feelings about Mamac are much like mine about Levis, The Gap and Old Navy. Its been many years since I bought a pair of Levis or shopped at those stores. Maybe I am unjustly lumping the stores in but it doesn't matter. Still no need to go there.
Currently, we buy all of our sensors from BAPI as well.
