Probably Carrier and Trane are the most expensive, depends on what part of the USA ,as prices vary around the country.

Tell us more about chainstores for A/C ,do you just sell or service and install??

Are they all owned by the same person? How many?

Yes there is such a thing. Sears, Home Depot,ect..
Most of the brands are of the same quality.

Here we have mostly "supply houses" that carry everything HVAC/R and appliance related. The supply house will usually sell one or two AC brands. Johnstones is an example of this, and there are others

Well our supply houses are generally only wholesale outlets that should for the most part sell only to liscenced contractors. Most dont have a means to allow retail customers to pick out their systems and purchase them and arrange for installation.

Yes, Home Depot and Sears will do this, but they are home centers and not exclusive to AC.

The mini-split or ductless split market is very small here. A few are sold, but nothing like you would find in the rest of the world. Generally speaking our construction is different and allows for designed duct systems. You have to remember our country is only a couple hundred years old and most buildings only stand for no more than 100.
