I recently purchased a 17 year old house with a Carrier 58GP furnace. The furnace works OK,but there is lots of rust on the burners and exchanger(I guess from A/C coil condensate).I would like to have the furnace inspected and given an unbiased assessment from a neutral party not a furnace installer.Any recommendations in the Toronto area?

I can tell you from here the spot welds in the HX are cracked. (no I cant really tell but that modle furnace has a history) I would also be willing to bet the left cell is cracked verticly in the back where it narrows on the left side. I believe the warranty was only 10 years so it's long gone...

Hummmmmm..... well Junior, sounds like you dont trust the furnace companies. Thats fine but in all honesty, I wouldnt want you for a customer if you didnt trust me to be honest with you.

I know the scummy hvac guys and for that fact all the trades have made people untrusting like you are. Your problem is ...... the guy that works on them day in and day out is the guy that knows what he is talking about.

Hell hire a home inspector ..... ya want to really see someone without a clue lol.

Ask your friends who does their work. When you have someone come out , why not have them show you what is wrong. Not like I cant show you why something should be replaced, just take the time to let the guy show you what is truely wrong.

Talk to your neighbors and see who they would recommend. You need to find a company you can trust. Very few companies are going to be able to properly inspect it that don't also install new equipment. Some of the larger companies, the guy that inspects it (service tech) may not be the guy who sells (salesman) or installs the new equipment (installer). He may gain nothing from the sale. Bottom line is find a company that you CAN trust.
