I got a final quote on a Carrier Infinity 16 (5 ton) heat pump and fan coil with zoning.

Outside-25HNA660A30
Inside-FE4ANB006

The quote has 5KW heaters included. My current Bryant heat pump has 10KW heaters. Is this a problem? What is the proper way to size the heat strips?

What is Smart Heat?

You stae 5 kw heater(S),do they mean two of them??

I'd want around a 10kw for your area.

I get confused about Samrt Heat versus Intelligent Heat(Carrier terms),but I want the 3 stage 9 or 9. something heater, during the colder weather it will bring on about 3 kws of heat at a time ,helps keep the heat pump from cycling off .

I just talked to my contractor and he said the 5kw was just an error. He said he will change it to 10kw.

I asked him about Smart Heat specifically the 3 stage 9kw heater. And he said that it wasn't worth it here in Orlando. He said that the strip heat will very rarely turn on. Is this a cop out? I got the sense that he didn't want to bother with it. It seems like Smart Heat could provide significant savings during the winter months.

Also I inquired about the Carrier EZ Flex filter cabinet and he said they use the Perfect Fit filter. I can't find this on the Carrier web site?

He may be right about the need for 3 stage heater, but it's a nice feature and you should already have the right size electrical wiring. It's up to you.

"Perfect Fit,I think is a Trane "trade name".I think he means the Carrier "FC " model(I think )filter cabinet model, fits you air handler ,size wise, for a nice install,if you have the room .If it's a vertical air handler,on a stand,it may make it too tall if you have an 8' ceiling.

If you're in Orlando Fla then the contractor is probably right. I know a guy who SWEARS people don't even need strip heat in their heatpumps down there at all and he's no hack.

A region specific question to say the least...

You definately still need them in Orlando. Unless you keep your house at 65 degrees.

I am a Carrier dealer in North Carolina and I feel the Infinity is the best system on the market today. I would recommend the Carrier Infinity Air Purifier in place of the EZ Flex cabinet. It is a much better application. Also, ask your contractor about the special promotions (rebates and discount on a 10-year parts and labor warranty)

My contractor did offer me the infinity air purifier with 10 year warranty and a rebate. I would get it, but I am concerned with the ozone emissions and lack of independent test data for this unit, lack of ASHRAE approval (all air cleaners), and additional cost. I also have heard stories of other air cleaners (trane i think) causing .6" of pressure drop.

We have several Air Purifiers installed ,including one in our home,no ozone smell at all.

Pressure drop is .25 at 2000 cfms ,for a five ton system. With your new duct system,it should be included in the design,so no problem with pressure drop.

Price, can't help you there it is pricey.
