This one is a 1998 model Dell. It was slow with dial up and I understood. Now with the new sattelite system it is a little faster, but freezes after about an hour. I just use this thing for email, forums, usatoday and searchs on google or yahoo. It took 30 minutes to post a picture the other day. I could call some to look at it. I am tired of unpluging this thing from the wall every hour. I have been told to get a Gateway or Dell. Any ideas? Roy

Just got a new Dell laptop and so far I am very happy with it. We have a local dealer next door to us, so that probably helped make the decision. But it is able to do what I want, when I want. So far so good! :)

Dont buy a Dell unless you like talking to dot heads. Then again, I guess that just about all customer service these days is done by Hindus.
Ya Im kinda in the same boat as far as needing another computor. The ones I have are not that old but I need a laptop.
Ok so does anyone have one that doesnt burn up from Sony batteries ????????
I just need a laptop so I dont have all the good stuff and tax info on a computor that may be stolen or burn up in a fire. You just never know, get in an argument........ you might just lose everything on record. I want a laptop that has everything on it my regular pc has on it.
Something happens , your up and running in minutes. Not spending days finding a computor and reloading programs and upgrading info. Ya you can back it up but you still need the programs on something to load the backup.
Just like all my programs for accounting, cooling & heating loads, bidding, forms, and whatever. I keep serveral copies with paperwork in more several locations in case something happens or someone gets disgruntle.
Yep ..... need a laptop all loaded and updated weekly.
oh I forgot , brother has a Sony...... It was junk from day one, now you can barely see the screen half the time.

Roy,
You may just need to get the computer you have wipped or cleaned of spy ware that slows down your computer. I would take it to a computer store and let them clean it up for you, probably lose it for a week. cost a lot less than a new one. I am still running windows 98 on a 350 micro, it's still fast, the only time it freezes up is when I get some spy ware.

Roy, I would get a Dell. I am useing a brand new one and I am very happy with it. They are reasonable in price(mine was about $750 with the printer/copier/scanner/fax).The only thing is you are supposed to buy the ink cartridges through them($25 plus dollars a peice)but I found one compatable for half the price at a office outlet store.

Go with the small buisness when chosing a laptop through dell, even if you are buying it for personal use. I get American tech support.

Roy you can get a Dell dual core dimension 5150 for $750.00, even with flat panel and DVD. It should last you to the grave. :D
Dell makes a very stable platform, the best IMHO.

IBM / Lenovo - never lost anything and believe me I've tried. My tech is a Dell man. The work puter they gave him is IBM. All the others in my house are HP with AMD processors. Kind of like asking what brand of AC should I buy?

Do a search for Spybot Search and Destroy.
It should help.
