A few years ago I had constant knee pain. I had my right knee scoped to clean out the cartilage. Simple day surgery, I was under the knife by 9 am, in the bar by 6 for Monday Night Football. (pre married life.);)
Fast forward a few years, went for a jog yesterday, and a hike today. No pain:cool:

How did they scope it? Were you under during the surgery?
I'm having pain when I walk down the stairs, and today I felt like something was under the kneecap when I bend down, feels kinda like a numbing effect...I dunno.

I have a good friend who called me at 2AM one night/morning 20 years ago. Had a knee done, and I talked to him for a while cause he needed somebody to talk to... I was more or less 1/2 asleep when I realized I couldn't understand a word he was saying. Sorta like.
"So your knee is good?"
"Werkn sdkjr ewiew c fjskjs vvmmfk xcvkmffkj hhhee, ehhesa djfhgjh ff eihs azlppio."
"Great when will you know when you can walk on it?"
"Iehnncj oak sdkj fne"
So I tried to give up the conversation, but he wouldn't hang up... Ended up another 45 minutes before I finally heard him drift off to sleep and I hung up. Later he told me he had a morphine drip he could control himself... He said it was worth the operation just for that.
That's what friends are for.

Saw my doctor, he referred me to a specialist, I waited 3 months to see him. Meanwhile, I started re-hab. Did physiotherapy 3 times a week. Finally had the surgery another 3 months later. Like I said, I walked out of the hospital (on crutches) but was walking fine within a couple of weeks.
See your doctor.

I've had both knees worked on, both had blown out cartilage, one was a torn acl....I now need a brace just to walk.....and was expensive as hell!

I had a knee problem early last year
Saw my primary, who then refered me to orthopaedic surgeon
who wanted to do the scope but since Ins said try therapy first which actually works out well because you strengthen the quads and that helps take over for the knee
after 3 weeks I then wen't back to the doc with the same problem as he said I would
We had the operation as a outpatient procedure I was scoped at 10 am and I was home by 3 pm
They wanted me walking on it as soon as I could
which was the very next day
It was a little bit sore but nothing you couldn't handle
After about a week I was as good as new

I can feel it in my knees when I walk down stairs too. & its starting to hurt when I stand up from a squatting position after working on air conditioners. I told my wife a while back that I think my knees are getting bad.
I can sympathize.

Sometimes when I twist my knee a certain way I get this sort of numb feeling from my knee down to my ankle...and sometimes I cannot walk downstairs or even down a slight grade...feels like my knee is just going to bend over forward. Its mainly been my right knee for years but now my left is bothering me...
I was supposed to have surgery on my right knee a few years ago...cut something out of the way...piece of cartlidge is torn and rubbing against or doing something to a nerve...but family problems prevented that ...maybe in a couple of years....
Im also going numb in both my arms...the two outermost fingers all the way up past my elbow.... going for a physical in febuary...guess Ill bring it up then. Both arms... its kind of odd...

Been working on my knees for over 30 years. Did TV repair when you kneeled behind TV's and fixed them in the homes. Had cartlidge removal in 1989. Was a lomg recovery to get all the stiffness out. (3 or 4 months). Now the opther knee is sore. Was doing ductwork last weekend in an attic. Couldn't stand up using my knee. Actually had to pull myself up by using trusses for help. Getting older. Take care of your knees now..use knee pads. The gardner type are easy to carry and inexpensive. The sugery was not too bad. They numb your knee up after a shot of something in the arm. Then they numb the knee. Was awake during the whole scope procedure. Stopped by Hooters on the way home. Got buzzed on a lot of beer. Slept for many hours. Did not fill the painkiller Rx. Just drank more beer.

I tore my miniscus on my left knee about 2 years a go. I tore it completely in half so they had to put it back together. Usually they just cut out the piece that gets torn. I was out of work for about 7 months. About 4 months of it was painful and the other 3 were a waste of time going to therapy. My knee still swells up every once and a while, which is noit bad compared to the pain I was in when I tore it. Make sure you get a good surgeon.
It's actually pretty cool when they do the surgery. They only numbed my knee so I was able to watch the surgery on the same monitor that the surgeon was watching while he done the actually surgery. Good luck..

Thanx for the replies guys, I have been trying my own therapy, been doing leg presses with some weights and it seems to be helping out a bit, I'm hoping it helps long term cause I've never had any surgery of any kind and would like to keep it that way for a while...I had similar problems with my back, it would hurt extremely bad after a couple weeks worth of big replacement jobs, so afterwards I would benchpress weights and it helped out a Lot, maybe it's just some muscles that are being neglected...i dunno.

Try jump rope leather w/ ball bearings and tape up the bottom for weight. Start with 5 min. and lead up to half an hour.I did for self rehab years ago, after Buds training in the Navy.

Tinner, they must have been doozies, I just had my right knee scoped 2 weeks ago. Had it done on a wednesday and I was back at work on Monday, granted it was light duty. I tore my meniscus also, tore my left knee 2 years ago. Was a bucket handle tear, alot worse than my right knee. I was off a little longer 2 weeks I think. The Doc said I couldn't screw it up by walking or working, only my comfort level would dictate what I could do. I'm not very tough either.
My Doc said if they sew the tear, the recovery is a lot longer.
