I'm working on a Carrier Heat Pump (package). Problem is that with T'stat in off position and fan in auto, every once in a while the blower motor comes on and runs a min or so, then cuts right back off. I'm not getting 24v from my t'stat at all when this is happening. It has one of those fan control relays, and I can hear relay closing to bring on fan. Any ideas? I draw myself closer to relay thinking it is failing, because there is no low voltage present for it to be closing.......

I would expect the relay to fail in the open position. I have found them stuck closed though.

I think your unit may be haunted.

ghost voltage? a limit closing because its so hot? does it have an economizer or a co2 sensor?
i had a york today that if i jumped r,y1,y2,g at the unit the inducer relay would close and bring on the inducer. i read 0 volts at relay. if i turned it on from the stat everything worked normal. it was weird!

Could it be a recirculation setting

no economizer, no sensor, customer says that has not always done this. I tried to read up on unit to see if there was some kind of recirculation. Did not read anything about that.
