Uniweld Type 17 Rosebud #15 tip

I just purchased this tip. i was reading that this tip consumes to much gas that i cant use my MC tank with it. I checked the specs on the tip and it consumes 15-30 SCFH. Im not trying to pull up huge tanks onto a roof.

are there any of you guys who are using a little MC tank with a R tank and a #15 rosebud?

That is the same tip I use for most of my brazing that is not in a tight space, even on 3/8 copper.
Careful with it though, it has a it can burn stuff from much farther away than a normal torch tip, and don't leave it eating one spot, even on bigger copper. ;)

It will burn through gas fast, but it puts a lot of heat on the joint, so you can get in and out fast, even on 1 1/8 or 1 3/8 copper with wet rags wrapped around the pipe close to the joint.
It is right on the edge of what you can do with an MC tank. I only set my acetylene regulator at 5 psi, much higher than that and the torch will be trying to use gas faster than it can be supplied by an MC tank that is less than about half full.
I've never had it us gas so fast that it started spitting out acetone like what happened when I tried to use a normal #5 tip with an MC tank though.:o

i was worried that i might blow up using my new tip. But it seems like you have been doing it for awhile.

do you have flashbacks and check valves?

my uniweld kit did not come with any and i dont think there in my #71 handle

I use the same tip only mine is a stubby length, I set accet to 5 while open 1/4 turn & oxy at 20. Just keep it moving or you will burn holes real quick. Otherwise it is my go to tip.

what do you set your oxy to?

About 10 psi, because it gives finer control of the flame than what you get with a higher pressure.

I've often thought about picking up some check valves, but never have.

I think I will take your advice and see out that works out, been hassling me with a a lot of pop outs to adjust Oxy at 20 gauge 1/4 turn open.

I use rosebud #15 all the time with MC tank. it does a clean job and quick. Just be careful keep the torch in motion. i set my Acet 5 and 1/4 of a turn, and Oxy 12-15.

I just tried one last week. I'd never used one before....it took a few minutes to get used to, but I think i might keep it on there. +1 on the length of flame....gotta pay a bit more attention there.

I usually use 5/15, but turned my oxy down to about 10 after a few minutes messin with it. technically, a "clean" flame is supposed to be 7/7.....but that leaves the oxy a little low for me.

I have this tip and love it.
personally I use 6psi act/ 18psi oxy. don't like going any higher than that.
I regularly see guys cranking the acetylene up past 15psi and wondering why their torches are busted...

Would you turn up the Acet if you were brazing bigger pipe like 1-5/8"?

most times i don't even look at the regulators. you just kinda feel what is right/how much heat you need for the size pipe. I'm still new on this tip, so it's possible I'll have to adjust for larger pipe. I was doing 7/8 with it that first day.

just got my new tip today. i fired it up with about 10 act and 15 oxy. what a nice tip.

i kept it running for about 30 seconds and turned it off. i never really paid attention before but is the actual tip suppose to get hot?

it was hot all the way to where you wrench the tip.

i think i might try 5 act and 12 oxy next.
