We need a moratorium on all immigration. Our true unemployment is estimated to be 23%. So why should we allow any immigrants legal or illegal to come to the US. One of two things will happen for every immigrant coming to the US.

He or she will either take a job away from an American citizen, get one which would go to a citizen or go on welfare and both are bad for all of us.

We currently have 40 million legal immigrants living in the US now. 500,000 came to the US in 2011. We sure don't need anymore with an estimated 60 million Americans who can'f find a job.

We of course could make a special exemption for a few scientists, millionaires, etc. to immigrate who would help our economy not hurt it. It is not just the illegals because they are much smaller in number but we need to stop all immigrants both legal and illegal. Thank you, thank you very much

We have enough tired, poor, hungry, and downtrodden. Don't bring them to us anymore. Illegals must be rounded up and sent packing back to whatever 3rd world toilet they crawled from. The government needs to institute some serious quality control on immigrants and pay attention to what kind of people they are letting in. Are they highly intelligent and skilled producers (could be from any nation, but preferably from nations that share US values), or leeches who will not adapt to a modern and civilized (relatively speaking, anyway) society and send all of their money back to durkadurkastan?

There's an anti-immigration advocacy group called NumbersUSA. You can use their site to send free faxes to your congress critters and keep up with the news on everything immigration. They don't just go after Mexicans, either. They don't want any immigration until the USA is turned around.

I don't expect my one letter to change anyone's mind...but several hundred or thousand letters and phone calls on one issue gets their attention and can sway a vote unless your particular critter is über ideologically bound to an issue. They all want to be reelected.

Pat Buchanan wanted a 5-year moratorium on immigration when he ran for president in 2000. He got less than 5% of the vote. We don't have a strong sense of nationalism in America anymore IMHO. Our American government, is far more likely, to show up at your house with some unconstitutional Federal military group, KICK YOU OUT OF IT, ...and hand it to some illegal, before they will ever consider making restrictions on illegal immigrants.

Put a halt to the gravy train and Americans would do the work. We have waaaay too many government programs that shield the lazy from the pain of unemployment. Take away benefits for people that live off of the system and those jobs would be filled rather quickly. Sorry, but if you don't have a trade or a degree you probably won't get a job with an office and an expense account.

Farm labor, nursery work, lawn care, hospitality, construction; all these industries are full of legal and illegal immigrant labor. We don't "need" immigrants to get the jobs done. We need the lazy to get off their asses and do the work and participate in the economy.

We have a few meat packing plants here that are almost totally maned by new immigrants. Actually the companies arranged with the government to get them in here. The reason they have the jobs and were wanted is because they work cheap. I had relatives work in a meatpacking plant years ago and some people I work with now came from those plants. It was hard work but it paid a reasonable wage and you could bring up a family on it. The companies said they could not compete with U.S. plants and they cut the wage for the older workers and the newer workers were to be paid just a bit over minimum wage. The union was told take it or we will close the plant.

Well the older workers have moved on ore are retired and now the plants are run with immigrants making less an hour now than was paid 20 years ago. And they don't say boo to anyone as they know what they have is much better than what they came from and they know they have little other option given that they are uneducated and unskilled. Basically they are doing it for their kids to have a future in this land, they are sacrificing themselves for the good of their kids. Shame the companies could not pay better and the factory jobs were seen as something proud to have as in the past rather than being the bottom of the barrel.

These companies get away with immigrants minimum wage for hard work because of economic conditions.
What might be crap pay to you isn't crap pay in Mexico, some of these guys send their money back home to pay for ranches that are larger than anything you own in America.
Most decide to rough it out for low wages because being broke in America is better than being broke in crap Mexico.

These companies pay Mexico wages and sell their products for American premiums.

The whole this is morally corrupt, if they can't attract Americans to work for them then they need to be out of business.

Let's call their bluff.
Let's see if they go out of business if they need to hire American workers.
If they threaten to leave the country, they i would say "good, you're not going to sell one piece of crap in this country."

Let's see how fast companies want to be separated from their biggest market.

My neighbor is one of the largest fruit growers in the valley. When economic times were good he could barely get any help because all the illegals/ legals took jobs in the construction trades. When times got bad (enough) he had browns and whites knocking on his door during harvest.
