about the ones that support us in our careers. Our wives and family. Try to do something (many of you probably already do) for no particular reason other than because they are there to support you. Next time you have a day off (not on call) pack the family up and take a drive, go have a picnic, go to the local amusement park. No special reason (but really, a VERY special reason.)
I am blessed myself with a very strong support system. My kids, my wife, my family in general. It makes what I do that much more enjoyable and rewarding.
In reality, they make the same sacrifices you do. When you are called out in the middle of the night, when they are having dinner without you, because that is the only time you can meet with the homeowner, it is a sacrifice on their part as well.
Let them know, in no uncertain terms, that you appreciate their support. It is certainly a strain on ourselves to deal with the demands of our jobs, but recognize it is a strain on them as well.
Missing little league, school events, etc. are not to be taken lightly. I know a lot of you probably schedule your time accordingly and for that I applaud you. Some though, don't have that luxury.
Just let them know (don't wait for an anniversary or mothers day or one of the kids birthdays) that you appreciate them; their patience and support.
Sound corny? Sorry, but I guarantee THEY won't think it's corny.
All the best, John.
