There is a huge epidemic of stupidity in the USA these days!

Anyone here that knows a bit about advertising knows it cost a bundle. With that said, a 30 second TV spot can cost a fortune and the pay back really has to be there or your gonna lose money. How do these companies pull off selling BOGUS crap at a rate that pays for it?

For example, "The ionic breeze" Sharper image sued consumer reports for stating that it more or less does nothing, and LOST. Yet the commercials are still on the air which means that one heck of a lot of people are plunking down 350 bucks for a POS.

The "smiling Bob" commercials for enzyte still roll and the company is under investigation for wire fraud and unauthorized credit card charges.

It is baffeling that there are so many idiots availible, or more specificly that these idiots can even obtain the funds to waste in such a manner!

And all the hype for: magnetic water softener devices, foil/bubble under radiant slabs (OK you don't see these on TV, but...) the list goes on. Marketing- once some half baked idea is in the consumer's mind, it's stuck and that's it.

A product doesn't have to be good to sell....it has to be perceived to be good. Look at the "pet rock" from the 70's......

Just the other day I bought some cow-manure for some plants..... so I payed for $hit.

I wouldn't call people stupid for falling for these "gimmicks", they thought they would work.
