Can you use galvanized pipes in a hot water heating system ?

I heard they can release ions and cause joint corrosion over time in a closed hydronic heating system. My partner said it is okay for free flowing water supply pipes but bad for a closed hot water heating system.

He recommended black pipe (good) or copper (best). I am more familiar with steel pipe and have little copper pipe experience.

I felt galvanized would last longer than black.

I am performing some upgrades on an existing old house. The house used to have a gravity feed that was upgraded to a closed system with a circulator pump many years ago (per the home owner). It has a mixture of large gravity feed pipes and smaller pipes.

Thanks much.

Steve

I've seen what the pipes look like in a regular water system after 50 years of use. They actually rust from the inside and plug up the pipes.
Not sure what might happen in a closed loop system, besides isn't galvanized pipe very expensive compared to other options?

They rusted because of air in the fresh water.

If it had been blk pipe they would have rusted in alot less then 50 years.
