Is that Orwelian or what? Signed up yesterday for all that free money. They are like your worst employer evev. They hold back a month and then they are a month behind besides. I paid it in for 46 years. It's my money not theirs. Then they have these income rules. What's up with that? A 2 dollar penalty for every dollar that is over the income cieling of 12thousand 4hundred and eighty dollars. I plan to keep working but work less but geeze louise, 12 thousand dollars?

Well I better keep in touch with you. I'm planning on getting my SS on Sept. 1, 07. I never collected a nickle unemployment or the like.

Fortunatly for me my son is taking over the presidency of this company. So I will take my pay in benefits instead of income.

I would suggest to you to start a little company and write off every expense that you can.

How old are you now? Keep in touch and let me know how you make out.

you sound like my age (49+) might as well figure to keep on working. the repubs don't want the program to go on and the dems want to give it to the lazy lowlifes.

When I retire I intend to be a male stripper and live off of the money I get from my g-string. Probably starve to death in six weeks.

Rental income does not count as income. Jerry, your son can pay you rent for tools, trucks, office, warehouse space, whatever. You'll still get SS.

I'm ready to start drawing mine too. I can start at 42, right?

Hal, don't complain.
By the time most of us 40 somethings retire there won't be anything left.

You must be under your full retirement age. That's the way it works. Best investment you ever made.

Mike; I've been self employed for 35 years and currently pay 15.3% of all net profit plus paying half of employees ss for that time frame. that is a wad of moola.Yes I will be 62 in Dec so I am taking some of the moola back.My full ret. age is 66 but just don"t want to work that long.At least not full time. I really don't know how accurate a record the feds will keep for me but I'll do my best to take back some of what I paid in over these looooooooong years.

*Within four to six weeks after you return this form (http://www.ssa.gov/online/ssa-7004.pdf), we will send you:
• a record of your earnings history;
• an estimate of how much you have paid in Social Security taxes; and
• estimates of benefits you (and your family) may be eligible for now and in the future.

I know what you mean, Hal. That was my case. I would have to work until I was 66 so I did some careful number crunching and would have to draw almost 30 yrs at full benefits to justify not drawing at age 62.

Hi Hal, sorry you have had to pay both portions all these years. I agree its a wad of money. Still a good investment. My full retirement is 65 & 7 months. I started drawing at 62 & 9 mo. Are you going to retire or slow down? Most people don't think about the other benefits associated with soc sec. How many dopers are drawing monthly checks. All types of disabilities and of course a death allows children to draw until i think 18

just slowing down. Will try to have all the checks made out to me.Most people these days pay by check or credit card. Not really looking for new business but have large cust. base some of which will keep calling me to do their work.
