A couple of the replies to a previous post suggested that duct restrictions could cause problems with a blower motor (part of the electric heater) and/or its capacitor and/or the HVAC system.

Is it bad to close the vents in a room or two if that room is seldom used? Is this a potential problem? The vents are the regular ceiling type vents (louvre?) so even when fully closed they allow a little heat or ac into the room.

Thanks.

Depends on the system design. I have seen systems freeze up or cycle on limit when one diffuser is closed.

Its a better idea to close the damper near the supply trunk.

IF designed right, you could theorectically , close some down on seldom used rooms.Went to one house complaining of loud wind noise.New unit was way oversized for the house and over half of the registers were closed off.Same call two days later for same and found the same.Tried to explain it but it didn't work.
