I emailed the company that told me to take it off twist the red yellow and green wires together and turn the power back on if it comes on its the thermostat if not its the ac unit, well nothing except the fan turned on could you guys please help me im out of work and have no money to pay a hvac guy . I was thinking it could be something stupid i didnt do. by the way its a gas heat /central ac in a condo thanks mike

Please don't take this personally, but you should not have tried to do this yourself. If you did fry something it's gonna cost you a lot more now to get it fixed than if you paid a tech to install this t-stat for you. Call in a pro before you burn something up, if you haven't already. If you had hired a reputable company to do this for you and they hooked it up wrong and fried something it's their responsibility to fix it, but since you did it yourself it's on your dime. If you didn't have the money to have a pro do it, you could have waited until you did.

If you twisted the wires together like you were told and only the fan came on, you need a service call, no two ways about it. Why the new t-stat if you're out of work? Sounds like you missed the diagnosis.

Question...

1. Did the instructions tell you to turn power off to your furnace and a/c before r&r the stat? (Did you?)

2. Did you turn the power back ON to everything once you were done?? (If indeed it was turned off).

This site is for industry professionals and folks seeking HVAC/R advice and knowledge. Please do not ask for step by step instructions on purchasing, installing or repairing your own HVAC equipment, that is our job and our livelihood. We are generous, but not to a fault.

Heres a tip. Cancel your internet ($14.95-$23.95) monthly.
Then you wait. Let 1 month go by, then 6, then a year, maybe 2 yrs go by. By then you have about $300. Call a technician, and pay him that amount for possibly new transformer & labor???? Good idea???? Let me ask a stupid question. Would you be changing alternator in your car if u were still out of work? Sorry for the stupid question.

New t-stat from Home Depot- $55
Burnt transformer- $40
HVAC/R labor- $110/Hour
DIY stupidity- Priceless

Just in response to all the "professionals" That waste the time and energy being mean. Just curious if you want to change a toilet seat do you call a plumber? Would you pay $60 hr to have a person come to your home and do something your fully capable of doing yourself? We all know its easy to change you know it as well as I do. As far as canceling my internet it takes a loser to have that sort of comment.Well im not going to waste anymore energy and lower myself to the level of some of the professional members on this forum Thanks again to the genuine people that tried to help me

P.S I fixed it myself for free!!!

Way to go! It is absurd, in my opinion, that one has to call hvac to fix tstat.

Why "experts" insists that help with basic wiring, is some what priveledged information is beyong me.
