Hi. I have recently had a 3.5 ton RUUD Achiever 14 seer split system (single speed) AC installed in my home. The system can not keep up and is performing properly according to 2 separate professional checks. I have been told by the contractor that they will upgrade me to a 4 ton outside condensing unit for an additional XXXX, with no labor charge to change them out.

This seems a little high to me. Did he hide the labor in the upgrade price?

No pricing questions, please read Forum Rules (http://www.hvac-talk.com/vbb/showthread.php?threadid=1241) before further posting.

No prices please. Think about what you originally paid. i would think about upgrading insulation or tighten the house up to make the smaller unit operate. Did they run a manual j calculation to arrive at the size system that they installed? Have they taken all the measurements to verify that the existing unit is doing what it was designed to do. Have they had a factory rep come out and verify that the unit is operating properly?

The unit is operating properly. The current company listened to what I told them about a heat load calc that another contractor did, and used that instead of doing one themselves. The system they took out was a 4 ton. This is a legal issue now, sisnce it is clear that the system is undersized. They even admitted that it was. I just need to know if they are truly upgrading me from a 3.5 to a 4 at cost as they claim with no labor. I do not have access to wholesale costs, so I will never know for sure, but I had to post the upgrade price so a professional could tell me if that sounds close or not. Based on prices i have seen on the internet for complete RUUD systems, the differences seem to be around XXXX to go from a 3.5 to 4.

No pricing please.

I see the stupid no prices rule guys. Geeez! I didn't specify an exact price, a contractor name, a location, or anything. I'm not selling anything, buying anything ect. You people need to loosen up just a little. I'll just get help elsewhere.

Thanks for nothing!

We have rules, they must be followed, sorry that you feel that way. Good luck in your search.
